Deep Roots Since 1917, Regional Powerhouse
At the core of MORSCO is Morrison Supply Company. Founded in 1917 as the Fort Worth Pump & Windmill Company in Texas, the growing company renamed itself in 1926, in recognition of the elderly J.T. Morrison’s leadership. Throughout the course of nine decades, Morrison Supply extended its footprint into Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana and New Mexico with over 70 locations to serve local contractors. Morrison had become the strongest independent plumbing supply company in the Southwest, and the company had even more potential for growth.
Expanding Local Relationships, Investments for Growth
In November 2011, Morrison received a significant equity investment from Advent International, one of the world’s largest private equity firms and one of most active investors in growing distribution businesses. Morrison management retained a significant ownership position and would play a key role in shaping its future. Chip Hornsby, an industry veteran, joined Morrison as CEO and the company embarked on a new phase of expansion. Our goal was to become the nation’s leading plumbing and HVAC distributor with luxury showrooms by focusing on people - best service for our customers and best place to work. We planned to do this by assembling the very best regional businesses and people in our industry, focusing on the most attractive local markets in the country and servicing our customers with the best people at the local level.
To support our aggressive long-term expansion plans, we invested in a new Corporate Services office in Fort Worth and gave our company a ‘new’ name... one that was actually over 90 years old: “MORSCO.” MORSCO would become the parent company for Morrison Supply and the other great local businesses that would join our family. How did we select the name MORSCO? The name MORSCO was Morrison’s nickname for decades and chosen to reflect our deep roots and values.
Our expansion kicked into gear in January 2012, by adding 13 new locations in Southern California with the acquisitions of Express Pipe & Supply and, shortly thereafter, Teal Supply. In September 2013, MORSCO acquired Farnsworth Wholesale Company, the largest independent player in Arizona with seven locations in the greater Phoenix and Tucson markets.
Solidifying its leadership position in the Southwest, MORSCO also acquired Wholesale Specialties in February 2014. Plus, we acquired six companies and started 12 locations. We expanded our footprint to the southeast in September 2015 with the acquisition of Murray Supply Company and their eight locations, then added Atlanta-based Devore and Johnson in May 2016. In October 2016, MORSCO expanded its footprint throughout the sunbelt by acquiring Fortiline Waterworks, one of the largest waterworks distributors in the United States.
Growing Industry Leader, 2016 and Beyond
The common thread with all MORSCO business units is the ability to operate locally – that way we can better serve our customers and give our people the best opportunities for leadership and development. Meanwhile, we are investing in world-class technology and back-office solutions to support our teams in the field, make their lives better, and help them deliver more value to customers.
Staying true to our core, we are proudly based in Fort Worth, Texas where we are one of the city’s fastest growing companies and are very active in the local community. We proudly support The American Cancer Society, JDRF, Careity Foundation, American Heart Association and the PGA Tournament at Colonial.
We have big plans for the future and will keep expanding. MORSCO will continue to recruit the best people and acquire the best companies in our industry. We seek to attract and engage people who love serving their customers and want a fast-paced career at the industry’s fastest growing company now with 174 locations in 17 states. We are actively looking for the best positioned and best run independent companies around the country, and plan to expand significantly beyond our current footprint.
